Bible Study Support Groups (BSSGs)

The BSSGs offered by Daughters of Christ Ministry, Inc. (DoCM) are typically offered once or twice a year and as our schedules permit. The length of each BSSG is determined by the topic and materials being covered. If you are an adult woman and have a topic of interest that you would like us to teach in an upcoming BSSG, let us know by filling out the form on the Contact Us page.

The below questions and answers are to help you better understand the design, purpose, logistics, etc. of the DoCM BSSGs. We look forward to hearing from you with any other questions you may have.

Q: Why are they called Bible Study Support Groups?

A: They are both a Bible study and a support group.  We carefully consider what God’s word says about the subject we are studying together so that we can apply the needed biblical principles in our life.  It is a support group of women that desire to spiritually grow together according to the specific needs that bring them to these groups for support in living the Christian life.

Q: What is the purpose of these BSSGs?

A: To foster a safe environment in which adult women can come together for the purpose of working through tough life issues from a Christ-centered, biblical perspective and learn to be a support to one another. “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” ~Galatians 6:2, KJV

Q: What materials are used in these BSSGs?

A: Sometimes we use a textbook that is Bible-based, like “The Excellent Wife” by Martha Peace or “The Search for Significance” by Robert McGee, and other times the materials are written by Dr. Sifuentes in the form of Bible/discipleship lessons to suit the needs of a particular group of ladies, like the one we held in January 2010 entitled, “Overcoming Depression: A Biblical Approach” using Philippians 4:8 as the main passage.

Q: How many women can attend each BSSG?

A: The attendance cap per group is determined by differing factors, such as space constraints at hosting facility or in light of an online venue. We have had as few as around 12 in attendance or as many as close to 50.  As with all of our ministry outreach services, we purpose to trust God for the right students to be sent our way and not be concerned with the volume in attendance.  With our Zoom online conferencing account, we are able to invite up to 100 people per BSSG to connect via video conferencing from their electronic device or computer — all from the comfort and privacy of their own home, if desired.

Q: Is there an attendance requirement to participate in these BSSGs?

A: Formally, there is not an attendance requirement. Each lady is encouraged to attend all of the meetings, or as many as they can, in order to gain the greater benefit from the meetings and be a steady support for their classmates.

Q: How long after the first session of a BSSG can a woman enroll?

A: Ideally, following the first meeting, the group is closed to further enrollment. We follow this practice to form a core group of women that are committed to this learning and growing process. It creates a more personal atmosphere and helps the ladies in each group form new friendships as they become more familiar with one another and bond in healthy, sisterly attachments.

Q: When will DoCM offer a new BSSG and what will the topic be?

A: To stay current with the ministry’s activities and outreach events, click the red “Join the Prayer Support Team” button below to begin receiving our Ministry Update Letters that will keep you informed on upcoming events, including new BSSGs on the horizon.  Or, visit the Events page to review the current ministry events being offered.

Q: Where are the BSSGs held?

A: Like all of our ministry events, they are held at local area churches or other Christian organizations that allow our use of their facilities.
